A great Garrycastle crowd travelled to Clontarf to see our under-10 and under-12 girls participate in the Enda Mulvihill memorial tournament and remember Enda, a great sportsman and stalwart of Garrycastle. Clontarf greeted us with a very warm welcome, both clubs paraded in glorious sunshine and stood to the National Anthem before throw in. Fielding two teams at both under-12 and under-10 we had up to 40 girls competing over four games. Our girls were wonderful, playing their hearts out, and showing great passion, determination & skills, taking on very competitive Clontarf girls that included Enda’s daughters. Afterwards Garrycastle were treated to refreshments and received their medals from Dublin’s All Ireland winner, Kate Sullivan. Garrycastle made a presentation of Athlone Crystal to Clontarf club as a token of our appreciation. This was followed by a presentation to Enda’s daughters Emily and Ella of a picture of the Garrycastle gym opening. Garrycastle thanked Ruth and the Mulvihill family and Clontarf GAA for organising such a fantastic and memorable event and for their generous hospitality. The event ended with an ice cream for each girl before the homeward bus journey.
Thanks to our under-10 and under-12 coaches and management for their work & preparation with the girls for this event.
Finally thanks to the large group of supporters who travelled and particularly Enda’s former team mates who played alongside him. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

There was a great turnout for the annual Garrycastle GAA club summer camp which catered for boys and girls from 6 to 12 years old. Unusually for an Irish summer, the weather held up well for the week which always increases the fun and enjoyment for all the participants. As well as the regular football and skills program that took place, each group had a great time enjoying a range of fun activities. The week ended with the by now traditional ice cream treat. As always we extend huge thanks to the organisers, coaches and helpers, without whom this successful annual camp would not be possible.

On a glorious Saturday afternoon, the inaugural Dan Hogan Féile Peile was held in Garrycastle. With almost one hundred girls in attendance from Clann Na nGael of Roscommon, Caltra of Galway, and Caulry and Garrycastle from Westmeath, a great afternoon’s football was enjoyed by all those present cheering on the girls.
In all, each team played three very competitive matches. For the Garrycastle girls, first up was Caulry, followed by Clann Na nGael in the second game, with the last game being played on the main pitch against Caltra. The Garrycastle girls put in a fantastic performance in all three games with Caltra proving very strong in the final game. In other games, a highlight on the training pitch was Clann Na nGael vs Caulry, the latter scoring some fantastic scores.
A special shout-out is definitely deserved for the parents who provided refreshments and to Pascal, Tom, and their staff for the welcome coffee and treats, those touches really make an event special. We would also like to acknowledge all the travelling teams and the support on the day. And, of course, big thanks to Conor Duignan and Niall Ward for their excellent refereeing.
We’re already looking forward to an even bigger and better Dan Hogan Féile Peile in 2026!

Garrycastle GAA is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural Dan Hogan Tournament, an exciting new annual event dedicated to promoting underage girls' football. The tournament debuts this year with a focus on the U12 age group, featuring four visiting teams alongside our own Garrycastle girls.
This tournament is not only a celebration of youth sport but also a heartfelt tribute to a cornerstone of our club's history. Dan Hogan was one of the founding members of Garrycastle GAA and served as Vice Chairman on the club's first Executive. His legacy runs deep and it was Dan's son, Roddy, who proposed the name Garrycastle and the iconic green and red club colours we proudly wear today.
Roddy continued the family's involvement with the club as a club chairman and County Board delegate, a role he shared with his late wife Breda, contributing to the club over the years.
Today, the Hogan family tradition remains strong. Dan's granddaughter, Rhoda Costello, is the current Chairperson of the Ladies Board, and his great-granddaughters, Rionagh and Laoise, continue the legacy on the pitch, representing Garrycastle at underage level.
This tournament not only honours the Hogan family's impact but also shines a light on the bright future of girls' football in our club. We look forward to a day of fun, competition, and community spirit - and to many more tournaments to come.
Laoise Costello, great-granddaughter of Dan Hogan, proudly holds the Dan Hogan tournament cup.
Also in picture are Garrycastle players Chloe Johnson, Eliza Crosbie, Fiadh Duignan, and Sofie McCallon, as well as representatives from Caltra and Clann na nGael.

The club was buzzing on Thursday evening with the exciting launch of the Dan Hogan U12 Girls Tournament.
This year's tournament proudly welcomes Caltra of Galway, Clann na nGael of Roscommon, and our close neighbours Caulry, and promises to be a thrilling showcase of skill and sportsmanship from some of the brightest young stars in the region.
A particularly special moment of the evening was captured as Laoise, great-granddaughter of Dan Hogan, proudly held the tournament cup. The tournament will be held in Garrycastle on Saturday 26th July.

The under-15 Boys made the journey to the Connacht Centre of Excellence, just outside Ballyhaunis, on Saturday, to compete in this year’s Region 2 Féile Peil na nÓg Finals. On a perfect day for football, which was calm and dry with just a slight breeze, the team embarked on an exciting and memorable campaign, showcasing teamwork, resilience, and growth.
Garrycastle faced a strong challenge in the group games, facing off against Islandeady (Mayo), Arva (Cavan) and St. Mary's Athenry (Galway). Our lads hit the ground running in all three of their group matches, using their energy and intensity to control the games from an early stage.Having won all three of the group games, we qualified for a semi-final vs Granard (Longford).
This game was a dramatic and physical contest, which needed a massive two-pointer into the breeze from Cristian Necil to tie the game, sending it to extra time. Trailing by 2 points as extra time ran out, a move from the right corner forward saw Daniel Murphy find Shane Glennon, who fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner through a crowded area, giving Garrycastle the lead for the first time, which they held to win the semi-final by the minimum. The reward for this win was a final vs. Michael Glaveys/Éire Óg (Roscomon).
Riding high after the semi-final, Garrycastle started the final with purpose and precision. The defensive unit, Daniel Crosbie, Aaron Mulvihill, Darragh Donegan, and especially Eoghan McCormack at corner-back, were outstanding throughout the tournament. Caleb Lynch, Daniel Sleator, and Jan Pozarowski also impressed with strong contributions.
And the forward unit of Robert Connor, Senan Kelly, Conor McCormack, Brendan Nally, Sheriff Bamidele, Casper Joyce, Shane Glennon and Daniel Murphy worked hard and didn’t give the opposing defence any opportunity to work the balls out with pressure being applied.
In attack, Tadhg Mulvihill struck early, capitalising on a misjudged kickout to score the opening goal. Garrycastle led 1-03 to 1-01 at half-time. The second half saw a slick team move end with Senan Kelly slipping inside his marker to score a composed goal. Tthe Garrycastle lads held strong to see out a fantastic victory. Final score line here was Garrycastle 2-04, Michael Glaveys/Éire Óg 1-01.
This was a true squad performance. Every player played their part, with substitutions making key impacts at decisive times and their strong teamwork was the driving factor behind every result. Parents, coaches, and supporters were rightly proud of a group that continues to improve with every outing. Well done all on a fantastic day!

Our under-15 girls made the long trip north to Owenbeg in Co. Derry to take part in the Féile LGFA Div.1 finals. Placed in a very strong group comprising St. Sylvesters (Dublin), Glanmire (Cork) and Charlestown Sarsfields (Mayo), the girls found the going tough in the group games, coming closest in the game against the Mayo team when losing out by just a single point.
As a consequence of the group stage, the girls were drawn in a semi-final against a New York team that had just a little too much for our girls, who put up a spirited fight, but it was to be in vain, and they exited this year’s competition at the semi-final stage.
So, commiserations to our girls who had set off with high hopes for this years competition. But equally, very well done to all 24 girls who played and who, despite the result, have had a fantastic weekend of strengthening friendships and making new memories.
Many thanks to all involved, especially to Jonathon Sweeney, Brian Murphy, Brian Ganly and Rhoda Costello. In addition, many thanks also to our chaperones and all the parents who travelled to Derry to support the girls.

On behalf of the entire club, we wish him a very Happy Birthday and many happy returns on this auspicious occasion!

Garrycastle had a large panel to pick from, (24 players), and were really up for the Div.2 Final match in Shandonagh.
As the final matches are only 20 minutes per half, it was critical the Garrycastle started strong and they did exactly that right from the off. The Garrycastle midfield and forward lines put huge pressure on the Shandonagh kick outs, and the Garrycastle defence did not give an inch as the whole team worked hard for each other, to win the ball back from their opposite numbers.
The Green-and-red lads attacked in waves with Cristian Necil and Tadhg Mulvihill causing Shandonagh all sorts of problems with their movement and Senan Kelly kicking some excellent points.
In addition, Aaron Mulvihill was a thorn in the Shandonagh defense with his hard running from deep, and he got his reward when he netted the opening goal in the first half.
At half time the Garrycastle lads led by two points, on a scoreline of 1-05 to 1-03.
As the second half began, the home side tried to take the game over, but the Garrycastle continued in the same vein as in the first half, giving nothing away cheaply, and struck for a second goal when with Conor McCormack got on the inside of his man, and made no mistake in tucking the ball away.
At the final whistle, the Garrycastle lads celebrated a great win, in what was a great team performance by the entire group who continue to improve with every match.
They now have a national final to look forward to later in the summer.

Our U15 Féile girls were in action this weekend aiming to follow in the footsteps of last year's successful team and emulate a similar outcome.
The group stages were held in Garrycastle on Saturday, where the girls came up against two very strong Mullingar teams. First up was St. Loman's and after a hard fought battle, the Garrycastle girls came out eventual winners pulling away in the second half to secure a well-earned victory.
Next up, they faced Mullingar Shamrocks, knowing only a heavy defeat would see them knocked out of contention. Garrycastle had the best of it in the first half, but Mullingar Shamrocks mounted a strong comeback in the second half and a few late scores gave them the narrowest win. No harm done however with the Garrycastle girls already having an eye on the semi-final later that evening in Athlone.
In the semi-final, Garrycastle came up against a strong Caulry side who had topped their group, winning all their games. From the first whistle, Garrycastle hit the ground running, showcasing some superb teamwork, great scoring and tenacious tackling. In the end, the Garrycastle girls ran out comfortable winners securing their place in the final.
The stage was set for Sunday morning in Athlone, when Garrycastle would face St. Loman's once again to contest the final.
As expected, this was a very tight final with two very good teams competing for the prize. With a strong wind blowing, Garrycastle built up a crucial lead to bring them to halftime. The second half was a different story. With the wind favouring St. Loman’s, the Garrycastle girls were on the back foot for large periods. However, their defending and goalkeeping was nothing short of outstanding and repelled the St. Loman’s attacks. And, apart from a few nervy moments at the very end, the girls held firm and came out victorious.
This marks the second U15 Féile Division 1 title achieved by the club in as many years, a tremendous achievement for everyone involved. Huge heartfelt congratulations are extended to the entire panel on their incredible success and we wish them the very best as they go on to represent their county in the national competition in June.

As part of the Féile weekend, the Garrycastle girls had the special opportunity to compete for the inaugural Staci Daly Players’ Player of Féile award.
This very special trophy was kindly presented to the club by Jackie Turley in memory of her daughter, Staci Daly, who proudly won two All-Ireland Féile titles with Garrycastle in 2003 and 2004.
In a fitting tribute to Staci’s spirit and legacy, the first-ever winner of the Staci Daly Memorial Trophy was Olivia Collins, who delivered a series of outstanding performances throughout the weekend.
Congratulations to Olivia on this well deserved honour, and a heartfelt thank you to Staci's family for sharing her memory with the next generation of Garrycastle players.

There was a fantastic response to the Garrycastle GAA Easter Camp with a great mix of boys and girls aged 5 to 12 taking part. Three great days was had by all working on their football skills and teamwork, as well as having great fun and lots of alternative activities when the rain poured down. Many thanks to the organisers, coaches and helpers who made this a great success.
